Linguistic Prowess

At all of 16 months and 23 days old, here’s a list of Yuyu’s vocabulary:

- Persons : Papa, Mama/Mommy, Ah Ma, Kong Kong, Jiu Jiu, Yeye, Mah Mah,  Auntie, Uncle, Kor Kor, Che Che, Di Di, Baby, Babu Sing (yes, Babu singh!)

- Animals : Zebra, Penguin, Tiger, Rabbit, Lion, Bear, Cat, Dog, Giraff, Fish, Cockcroach, Owl (or maaooo..as he calls it in Mandarin), yang (sheep), horse….

- Fruits : (ba)nana, apple, orange

- Objects/nature : Moon, star, cloud, cloudy, rain, tree, leaves, plant,

- Objects/toys : balloon, ball, car

- Objects/kitchen : pot, wok, spoon, cup, kettle, rice, oil, onion, (to)matoe, chye (hokkien for veg), ladle,

- verbs : cook/cooking, walk,  mop, iron (clothes), raining

- others : shoe, dirty, yakult, coco crunch, milk, scratch, pow pow/pow pow der (powder),  no, yes,  wire,  up, upstairs, pour,  wet wet, cover

- combined words : apple juice, put here, take out, water plant, eat rice, babu singh (hee, mama can’t get over this one),  don’t touch,  leaves drop,  mop floor,  make-up, why no, nianzhu (Mandarin for stick on)
